Parents and guardians are entertaining their children day in, day out and we salute you. I know the 'little bundles of joy' have probably grown horns by now and redecorated the house with toys, glitter, pens and crisp wrappers, but you are smashing it.

Luckily, Mum of three Kerry Ann Wotton created a Facebook group a few years ago for parents to share DIY activities for kids across Devon and Cornwall, and oh my, how relevant has this page become since 'the darlings' have had nowhere to burn off their energy and creativity.

It feels like a lifetime ago when schools locked their gates and the Government suspended all students until further notice. With some preparing for exam season and not having their friends and teachers is worrying, especially for what the future holds. The Facebook page activities for kids in Plymouth, Cornwall and surrounding areas have bought educational, fun and creative ideas into one space so parents and children of all ages can keep entertained and distracted in these uncertain times.

What separates the local page from most is that it's real, no sugar coating its a place for parents to keep updated on unique and creative ideas but also somewhere to seek advice for stressed mums, dads and guardians. Kerry Ann Wotton's message speaks volumes.

"I'm sure there will be a time our little darlings will annoy the s**t out of us! As well as looking after their mental health we need to look after ours."

Here are some of the amazing ideas that people are sharing:

This a time where children are learning valuable skills, staying creative, keeping their minds healthy and spending quality time with family during the pandemic. This page is constantly being updated and keeping little ones occupied. It's an amazing way to show that parents are not alone in how they feel.

Kerry Ann Wotton says:

"Me and my friend kept forgetting what and when things were on so i thought it was a good idea, and its grown from there... For mums and dads with younger children, i really hopes this helps them out in isolation."

Her youngest daughter, 9 loves arts and crafts so the mother and daughter have taken to ideas shared on the page and started building a unit out of pallets which would have been otherwise, rubbish.

She said she 'enjoyed building it' and isn't it just incredible?

I'm sure mum will be enjoying a glass of wine in the garden bar and lemonade for the little ones.

I do think it's important to say that this is a tough time for all ages and by sticking together we are making things a little easier, especially by having this amazing Facebook group. We all should feel proud of each other and ourselves during this because we are smashing it.

If you have any ideas or have done anything creative comment below and join the Facebook page for inspiration!

Stay smiling,

Z
